Working together in a group requires great many efforts from all the members of the group, as each member of the group has to contribute his or her efforts in the form of skills, competencies, knowledge and experience for accomplishing the overall group objectives or goals. As an evening charge nurse of a medical unit, I owe great level of responsibility. I am supposed to organize the activities that are going to take place within the medical unit. Starting from the attendance of LVNs, RNs and CNAs till the end of shift duties. I have to manage 12 subordinates during my shift, which includes five RNs, four LVNs and three CNAs. All these subordinates belong to fairly different cultural and ethnic groups, so to manage group cohesion and synergy; I have to put great level of efforts in the form of leadership role.
There are four male group members among the total of 12 members in my group. Setting group objective and managing it accordingly is of great importance for a group leader (Marquis & Huston, 2012). All the members of the group should agree on the established group objective otherwise the work group will never be able to accomplish the established group objective. The female members of my group are the most difficult ones to handle, as they all have different views about various things and it was not an easy task for me to make all of them agree upon a single point. The LVNs and RNs were the most dominant members in the group.
