This purpose of this paper is to highlight the uses of webcams. A web cam (webcam) is a small digital camera connected to a computer, which can capture images and transmit them via Internet live, whether to a Web page or other computer or other private or public. The presence of the webcam has revolutionized the computers and PCs available at home, especially when it comes to laptops that have built-in softwares. The world has now transformed into a global village. The applications of Information Technology have had a dramatic effect on our life styles, the way we communicate, and all other aspects of daily life. Computers and its accessories have become an integral part of our live and we cannot imagine living without them (Grivas, 2009).

In general, the webcams are used to transmit live images, but can also capture still images or short videos (depending on the webcam program) that can be recorded and streamed over the Internet. This device is classified as input, since through it we can transmit images to the computer. The webcam is widely used in instant messaging and chat like MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc. The camera connects directly to the Internet or local network your home or office. Surveillance and camera control can be performed via the Internet from anywhere with a computer device or mobile phone.

The camera has an informative LCD panel that displays information about the current IP-address, subnet mask, gateway, etc. Webcams need a computer to transmit images. However, there are other independent houses that only need an access point to the computer network, either Ethernet or wireless.
