Wardriving

Introduction

In the current era, network and computer technology is considered as one of the most important factors in every field of life. In this situation, computer networks are always on high risk of hacking or any other unauthorized access to information. Wardriving is one of the latest techniques of hacking. This technique is used to find weak networks which are vulnerable to cyber attack. Wardriving is a procedure of driving around in a vehicle which is highly equipped with a laptop or computer. This laptop or computer is used to search out any weak wi-fi network that can easily be hacked (Dubendorf, 2003).

In this procedure, only a laptop or computer along with right software and wireless receiver is needed by the hacker. Once a weak network is found, a hacker can easily get an access to the network and can easily control the entire network. Now days, wi-fi networks are widely used in educational institutions, offices as well as in homes. Therefore, they are on high risk of wardriving because wardriving has equal affects on every one. Wardriving can be prevented by taking effective steps by educational institutions industries and homes in order to reduce the information and network looses. Some of the methods and techniques which can be used to fight against wardriving are discussed in the proceeding discussion (Patton, 2006).

Discussion

Wardriving is referred as a technique in which hacker drives around along with computer, mobile devices or laptops which are interlinked with high powered transmitters. These antennas or transmitters are used to scan any weak, unlocked or inadequately protected networks. In case, hackers recognize any unprotected network, they ultimately attack on that vulnerable network resulting in exposure of highly confidential information or data. Wardriving can seriously affect industries by stealing their online banking records and then utilizing it ...
