The philosophy of human resource management is required to value the workforce of an organization and consider them as major and important asset which can further represent an organization's character and the capacity of its performance. Generally, this is considered as an essential concept which serves as the path to draw huge positive outcomes. Human capital is known as a crucial and critical element that eventually direct the overall performance of an organization, either towards success or failure (Walker, 2000). From here the value of the work force is realized in which the human resource management is supposed to hold the decisive relation in current system of performance management, that encourages healthy relations among employees and their organization. This paper focuses on the issues related to human resource management of one of the leading retail store Wal-Mart.
Discussion
Wal-Mart is one of the leading retail chains of stores and a multinational corporation because of its presence in global markets and operations selected considering worldwide approaches and perspectives. However, according to the results of the Fortune Magazine 2003, and after obtaining the poll of 10, 000 financial analysts, business executives and board directors that are located in 25 countries around the world, Wal-Mart is not only considered as the largest corporation of the world but it is also the world's most admired company. And according to the records of the same year, Wal-Mart had 1.4 million “associates” which were called as employees by the company. The international functions of Wal-Mart have been reached to Mexico, Brazil, China, Argentina, United Kingdom, Canada, Puerto Rico, Germany and South Korea, and has become able to achieve sales of approximately $41 billion in the fiscal year of 2003 (Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., 2003a). However, this fact that Wal-Mart is an organization that takes global opportunities into consideration and along with this significant part of its assets is certainly well prepared for the global challenges.
As the company is increasing and focusing on expanding its global presence, they therefore are running into several different opportunities, developing innovative and modern schemes and using several different approaches for the maintenance of the growth rate. However, every decision has to face some risk originating in its way. But it can be said that no doubt Wal-Mart is obtaining continuous success in the field and the industry in which it operates, but still the organization is facing definite problems and difficulties which are originating from the transactions done in the worldwide approaches and perspectives. But there are some of the elements that contribute in constructing the business hard to handle and the global transactions difficult to accomplish (Pearce & Robinson, 2000).
