Virgin Group's was incorporated within the year of 1989 by its holding company, known as Companies House but howsoever, the links of Virgins business activities date back to the era of 1970's, therefore it can be said that the functionality of the company started back in the early years of 1970. As of the update upon the company of 2008, the company has been having a worth of £5.01 billion. The initial business of the company started off as an investment in the Virgin record house, the name “virgin” was adopted as the two initial investors of the company, who were Richard Branson and his friend started off as virgins of the business industry of the record house and the name meant to indicate towards their inexperience in the field.

The Group is known to be completely owned by Sir Richard Branson, but howsoever the companies that are listed under the flagship of the brand name “Virgin” are all separate entities and Richard Branson only owns some of the companies under the brand name of “Virgin” completely, while owning a certain percentage of stocks in the others, which are both the cases of minority and majority. Occasionally, Sir Richard Branson is known to sell the license of the companies under the flagship of “Virgin” to many other subsidiaries like Virgin mobile USA, Virgin mobile Australia, Virgin Music and many more (Dobruszkes, 2006).

Within the travel industry the Virgin Group Limited is set to have an investment within the companies one of which is not active anymore, which was previously known to be as Virgin Express while the current company that is in place and is actively functioning under the name of the brand of “Virgin” within the travel industry is Virgin Atlantic.
