Abstract

Over the past many decades, various kinds of video games have been available to the users and children. These games are considered as a unique type of entertainment in which the players can participate actively, by paying constant attention to the game. The people of all ages spend long hours playing video games. Despite of having many advantages, video games often pose risks on the children, particularly if the games are violent. This paper presents few examples of the violent video games and their impact on the kids.

Introduction

The video games engage the children mentally, as the player feels himself to be the part of game's script (PAMF, 2012). The player feel more involved while playing the game, as compared to watching any thriller movie, due to the passive nature of movie. Playing video game has some positive impact on the kids. For example, advanced video games help in improving the computer literacy of the kids, developing the problem solving skills, and boosting up the brain activities. The popularity of video games in all age groups, especially in the children has made the video game industry, a multibillion dollar industry.

The impact of video games is considered to be more negative, as compared to the positive features they provide to the kids. The impact also depends upon the nature of the video game. If the video game is violent in nature, it is considered to be responsible for making the kids aggressive.

Examples of Violent Video Games

Over the past few years, it has been found that kids, especially the boys like to play violent video games as compared to any other type. Violent video games are that contain violence elements such as killing animals or people, dealing with alcohol, drugs or other abuse material, criminal behavior, sexual violence against women, racial or gender stereotypes, and foul language and gestures.

Some common examples of the video games that contain violence include, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat, and Saint Row. This section of the paper discusses each of these video games briefly.
