Introduction

Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Post-Impressionist painter, who painted about 900 paintings, of which 27 are self-portraits, and 1,600 drawings. All his artistic development was affected and limited by their psychotic symptoms. His life was closely linked to his brother Theo, who was a great moral and financial support Vincent in Zevenbergen studio since 1864 and in 1866 went to Tilburg. He dropped out in 1868. He started working as an apprentice in 1869 in an art gallery in The Hague in 1875 was sent to Paris, and later to London. He was fired in 1878. He spent six months in Dordrecht as an employee of a bookstore. Then moved to Borinage mines, where he spent 22 months to evangelize the miners. Vincent finally decided to devote himself to painting. In 1880 he settled in Brussels and enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts.

Vincent Willem van Gogh was born in Netherlands, on March 30, 1853. All the short life of Vincent Van Gogh was an ordeal inside one of the great artistic and human adventure of modern times. His intense love for humanity, his relentless struggle against loneliness and misery of lead his life to the most difficult undertakings. Any painter who truly discovered on his own painting, that was Van Gogh. He did not feel attracted to academic learning. He was enrolled in painting schools and practiced formally, with painters, but became familiar with these techniques, preferred to discover the secrets of art on his own (Arnold, 2004, pp22-43).

Van Gogh was a very emotional person, which is evident in his paintings. Through his art he deals with his inner feelings and emotions such as fear, sorrow and worry. So for him, the art becomes a means to process his "affairs". The place where he paints is very important to him. It is essential for van Gogh to put his current mental state into the picture. He paints his pictures, preferably where he witnessed the relevant events. Van Gogh's art works in comparison with other popular styles of art very expressive. He inspired many modern artists: especially the expressionist painters on their way to their new art style.
