Video game addiction disorder refers to a psychological characteristic of video game craving and obsessive playing. The addiction to video games results in the player behavior in repetitive and compulsive, as in pathological gamblers or consumers of psychoactive substances. Another factor is the satisfaction achieved when playing the game. Getting to a certain level or getting the best gear. The more you play the game the more you get better at it, and that is what drives most gamers, they want to become the best (Griffiths, pp. 479-487). One of the most overrated factors is the graphics of the game. Many gamers are looking for the most detailed graphics when they are choosing a game, because if the graphics are good, then the more the player is indulged in the game and therefore, becomes addicted. All of these factors play a big role in getting a gamer “hooked” to a game.
The Impacts of the issue
Play video games with thousands of others can be seen as a social activity, but for children or adolescents contained any form of addiction to these games can only further isolate friends and peers. Video games can lead to some dependence in children. Past studies at Simon Fraser University shows that four teenagers playing video games feels a form of dependence on them and he is troubled by his lack of control over his behavior. (Griffiths, pp. 339-344).
There are many impacts that come with video game addiction, they can stretch from impacts that affect the person or impacts that effect the whole society. One of the greatest impacts is putting the real world aside for the “virtual” world where the addict is neglecting things happening in real life, an example of this is the couple who were to busy raising their virtual kid which caused the death of their real life three month old daughter. Another impact is social isolation. A new study shows that video game addicts showed similar traits to people with the Asperger's Syndrome which is an autism spectrum disorder where the person is characterized with difficulties of social interaction (Griffiths, pp. 547-554). These traits are neuroticism which is emotional instability, depression and agreeableness. One of the other impacts of video game addiction is financial strain, where people who are addicted are neglecting their academics, and their jobs therefore, losing money and time, which is very important because the young shape the future of a society but when you have 15 % of them addicted the future doesn't look so bright if those numbers stayed that way.
Potential negative effects on fitness are another concern related to addiction. When a child spends long hours playing video games, often at the expense of more active pastimes. If your children are struggling to control him, you need to help establish the boundaries of game time and encourage them to focus on other activities. Children are so caught up in this virtual world that they don't take the time to hang with their friends or talk ...
