Ventilator Associated Pneumonia



Abstract

Ventilator Associated Pneumonia shortly referred as VAP. It is not being characterized by more common causative agents, instead as the name of the ailment suggests, it is more or less restricted to mechanical ventilation. When the correct measurement of the causative agent or if one has to understand the mechanism that is related with the reduction in the gas exchange then it has to be made sure that prior culture has been obtained in the form of installation of mechanical ventilation. There are many costs that are associated to the hospital as far as treatment of the ailment is concerned as well as the difficulty patients had to communicate the ailment to their physicians and doctors as they are on the ventilators. Thus this research program has been initiated to make sure that there is reduction in the number of people who are suffering from this ailment. The nurses and the overall medical staff has been educated about the seriousness of the issues and the all the measured protocols and measures are being conducted in the manner that makes the information clear to all the people who are related with the hospital. Problem or Issue

There are many patients every year who are in the risk of dying due to the Nosocomial infection. Many patients succumb to this disease every year in the ICU due to this ailment. At the ICU of Palms West Hospital, it was seen that there were many patients who were already intubated at that time. The immune system of these patients was not really that good. Most of the patients that were at the ICU were suffering from the ventilator-acquired pneumonia. It is one of the more common hospital illnesses and it is required as a result of a hospital inquired infection that is surviving on the mechanical ventilators.

Project Management

It will be of great value to the management of that ways to reduce the infections is being found out. The basic purpose of the project is to make sure that there is prevention program that is in the interest of PWH as it has to implement some sort of mechanical ventilators. By taking such measures, they can at least bring down the number of incidence of VAP.

Proposed Solution

In the initial phase, it has been perceived that about 20% of the intervention will be implemented each month. So there is a definite plan and quantitative number that management is looking to achieve. The most feasible solution that has been brought is that the general level of awareness that people have about the mechanical ventilators is being brought into the control and there is a deliberate effort from the management that infection should be brought down.
