Based on the first literature review and need analysis a first version of the VDS was developed. The first VDS consist of the technological tools as well as the pedagogical tool based on the available literature and technologies when this first started this stage was the starting point for further development. The second stage was the re-design stage where the VDS was revisited and further developed according the need analysis and the case study. Then was the third stage where the final version was produced and the field work was conducted to come back to further development suggestions.
The development of the VDS went through three evaluative stages. Each evaluative stage was conducted in a different phase. The first phase was the first attempt to construct the first VDS depending on the literature review and the need analysis of the UAE society and the evaluation was conducted through the international best practice indicator. The feedback was then used in the development and redesigning of the second VDS. The second evaluation was then conducted using student survey in the UAE University. In the second phase respectively the feedback was used into the development of the third VDS. A study was then conducted in phase 3 and a final version of VDS was constructed and developed. The next table shows the study contexts and surveys.

A different evaluation scheme was use for every different phase depending on the phase type and nature. The main aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of the VDS and its suitability for the purpose and to analyse the appropriateness of its tools.
Phase 1:
The needs analysis in phase one concentrated on defining the broad lines for the implementation of technology in design education and the lack in the UAE university and how to fill the gap and promote a successful integration of new technology in design education that can enhance performance. A thorough literature review was conducted to identify the need. The literature review consisted of document revision and curriculum revision. His Highness Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al-Nahayan the minister of higher education in the UAE has consistently emphasized the importance of integrating new technologies in education by highlighting the importance of the role of technology in education as well as his expectations of the graduates of the UAE universities to be equipped with language skills as well as information technology (Grewal 2001 pp.96-110).
This promoted the researcher to consider the literature to identify the new technologies implemented in design technology. The literature review revealed that the use of technology in architecture in general and in design in particular has gone through many phases pinpointing the Virtual Design Studio (VDS) as the latest and the trendiest. Based on the UAE society requirement and the international approach the first VDS ...
