Valve Steams Ahead

Introduction

Valve Software operates in a different and unique way. According to the case study, the company does not have any managers as the structure of their company is organic and flat. There are no managers or leaders the employees report to, instead they work as a team and develop job description as per the need of the project they are working on. This is surely a unique and innovative way to work and it attracts a lot of potential workers. Numerous individuals are willing to work with this organization as the provide employee satisfaction. However, the organization faces problems in their recruitment process and handling the new employees. As there are no leaders and managers, no one is there to help out the new employees. This is the reason why the majority of them don't adjust in the company. The main problem of Valve Software is that there is no proper organizational structure.

Organizational structure determines the division of work between workers and informal channels of coordination and chain of command. Organizational structure governs relations within the institution and identifies responsibilities. Organizational structures and design patterns are actually the organization of a company to meet the proposed goals and achieve the desired objective. The structure of the organization has a strong impact on the culture of the organization. To select an appropriate structure it is necessary to understand that every company is different, and may adopt the organizational structure that best suits their needs and priorities this means that the structure must engage and respond to planning and it also must reflect the situation of the organization. Valve Software has a different culture as compared to the other organizations. They have to create such an organizational structure which goes with their cultural values and also solves the problem.

Variables influencing the work-life benefits such as demographic characteristics and worker employment types have been reported by some scholars. Gray (2001) disclosed that the employees' characteristics and the type of work life benefit would influence the relationship between employees' attitudes towards the work life benefits. They also found that employees' preferences in respect of work life benefits varied according to their age and stage of family development (Gray, 2001).
