Research Proposal in US-China Relationship Impacts

Abstract

This research proposal aims to study and analyze the political and economic impacts of China's emergence as a global power and how it threatens the position of the United States in the international system. It also assesses the relationships fostered between China and the ASEAN players and how they might reframe the global economy by giving rise to conflicts. Comparisons of the policies and strategic implementation systems of both the giants have been presented in light of economic factors. A focus has been placed over the previous and current ties between China and its neighboring partners and US. The questions pertaining to the impact of this research and study will be both far-fetched and meticulously focused. The long-term impacts may be translated into the changes that the US as market leader is adopting in its foreign policies to cater to this growth. Questions such as whether these policies are focusing on a positive direction or cooperation between US and China will be answered. The threats associated to the eruption of conflicts between the regional and international partners have also been identified.

US-China Relationship Impacts

Introduction

The U.S. has witnessed a host of changes in its policies pertaining to China over the past few years. While some of these have been influenced by the changing presidential regimes, core policies have shifted from mutual cooperation while safeguarding the interests of each other to pursuance of a hedge strategy approach whereby the coalition attempts maybe threatened. The same has been referred to as a policy change that may invigorate cold war among the two parties.

Allegations and criticism following the changing policies of US in response to China's growth and stability in the global market have implied that the shifting policies emerge as a threat to China as the US strives to build relationships with the neighboring Asian partners.

Problem Statement

The most major indications of threat that emerged for the US were during the financial crisis during which a majority of the firms and businesses in US followed a downward slope towards failure. The Chinese economy on the other was able to rebound quickly from this crisis of 2008. With a double digit growth of nearly 10%, the Chinese economy was able to lessen and to conquer the gaps between US, defeating Japan and Germany at several forefronts.

This re-engagement of China with the global economy and that too at massive levels has had its share of implications on the economy. Partners and neighbors have also experienced a significant impact on their regional economic conditions. The impact has been so massive that the Asian Pacific region has witnessed a restructuring of ties in relevance to economic statuses.
