US Health Care Cost

Introduction

This is true that health care cost is rising and becoming expensive for families as well as the government. Approximately 47 million Americans do not have insurances. Despite of the fact that the high cost is one of the reasons, along with other things are the lack of nurses and medical experts. Medical errors are costing lives and billions of dollars per annum (Colin, 2010).

In the past four decades, the total spending in the health care sector in United States, has reached the average rate of 10 % per annum despite inflation in the country. Overall in the total percentage of the economy that is spent on the health care sector is around 16 %. It is expected to be increased to 20 % by the year 201(Shi, 2008). The premium on the health insurance has also been raised in the new millennium to 87 %; this percentage is the average percentage of a single American family. This percentage for the average family is five times quicker than the rise in the consumer prices, and four times quicker than the wager per person has increased (Patel, 2008).

Discussion

Although the cost for the health care is rising, but the does not mean that due to this reason government will be going for the rationing health care services. Health care is the right of everyone living under a government and deserves the best health care. The government should educate the people in the system and should move from a sick care to health care with an updated focus on prevention (Burton, 1999).

The way I would resolve is to give recommendations to government through which the high cost could be eliminated, and the medical facilities would be availed by every citizen. The recommendations follow for the government, that although there could be no one except the government who would contribute more to the cost in health care (Iglehart, 1999). It is suggested to them to augment the mutual benefits collectively with the providers of the health care services in order to provide quality of care at the lowest possible cost, and thus, espouse the pay for performance evaluation criteria. Payments should be made in a timely manner to the hospitals, professionals and medical experts. The medical experts should deliver their services to all those citizens who are not even eligible for the health care services, and those who cannot afford expensive health insurances (Pauly, 1998).

One more proposal has been suggested to the government to follow in order to balance the cost and the quality of the health care. They should make it necessary for employers to provide their employees coverage or pay a payroll tax that is pay or play, so that their employees can be cover under the health care services by the government. Thus, the workers would be covered through the employer sponsored insurance or via the health care provided by the government.
