Introduction

According to an evaluation about 60% of nursing care home patients undergo from the issue of urinary incontinence (Brandeis, 1997; Adelmann, 2004; Saxer, 2008). Concerning about people suffering from this issue is a challenging task for the health care workers. Various researches in this manner show some special interventions for urinary incontinence. (Fantl, 1996). Such as, a considerable treatment must be implemented for special cases, especially for old people who are having or not having any insignificant cognitive impairment (Burgio, 1994; Ouslander , 2001). For a good care of cognitive impaired patients, a scheduled urinating or timely toileting also offers a positive effect towards their recovery (Colling, 1992). Thus, an essential issue in the execution of efficient treatment is the requirement of experience of the nurses regarding treatment as well as right assessment of urinary incontinence problem (Lekan, 1998; Watson, 2003). It is important to evaluate existing knowledge of nurses and their practices in the field of urinary incontinence in order to gain adequate guidance and education related to that. Henderson and Kashka (2000) evaluated the knowledge and practices of nurses in America. Nurses of America responded about 73% of the questions related to information they required in the treatment of urinary continence. But in consideration of Europe, no information is available. As the knowledge and practices of nurses fluctuates among America and Europe, and the results explored from US is not completely possible. So, it was planned to check out the education and knowledge level of nurses' and their assistants in Swiss nursing care homes.

The execution of learning of nurses and their assistants was characterized into two main segments: (1) latest questionnaires related to knowledge and practices were developed with authority of examination by a group of expertise and (2) a stable evidence of balance organized for treatment criteria and evaluating the nurses' and nurse subordinate's level of knowledge, practices and training about urinary incontinence.

Overview of the Framework of Research

Design

A questionnaire in hard copy with a cross-sectional plan of research was formulated to assess the practices and rank of knowledge of the nurses and their assistants from several nursing care homes of same level.

Instrument

In order to evaluate the nurses' familiarity with the urinary incontinence and their practices in that manner, a modern instrumental device had to be created. In reality, there are already questionnaires to assess nurses' familiarity and practices known as the “Urinary Incontinence Scales”. But the majority of the questions of the scale might not be exercised as they did not in convention with nursing care home's population; or when performances of mostly doctors of Swiss were assessed.
