Plagiarism is considered as the academic “theft of ideas”, for using a works by others without proper authorization of that work (Kline, 2009, 254). Plagiarism is one of the major problems associated with the graduate writings, as there are a number of resources available to read and understand materials. Most of the students consider it as a positive aspect to write someone one else material and using it as their own effort. Importance of Understanding Plagiarism in Graduate Level Writing

One of the main reasons is that such students avoid mentioning any source used in the text and they just copy and paste the material. In today's electronic and advanced time, it is not difficult to identify use of any such materials used. This can result in failure of the student and even can involve legal issues, as in most of the cases; the works are authorized (Greenfield & Osborn, 2006). Another important aspect is that, writing at graduate level without using other sources for the support of data also disqualifies a work, because, without proof or support from the evidence, along with the acknowledgment of original source will not be considered as a professional academic and graduate writing. This is the reason that proper citation of the source is very important for the graduate writing.

Acknowledgment of Original Source and its Important In Graduate Writing than In Undergraduate Writing

Sourcing is more important at graduate level than undergraduate. Graduate level writing is very different from an undergraduate writing; graduate writing involves more professional approach and it is based on empirical studies. This also involves ethical issues for using someone else's work. If a writer uses someone else's work for their writing it is important to must acknowledge the original source, otherwise it is considered as “academic misconduct” (Kline, 2009, 253). Undergraduate writing does not involve professional writing style. Undergraduate level does not consider as a higher level and professional authoritative work, which can be used for further support.

On the other hand, graduate writings are of higher level and involve research work, thesis, reposts, research papers and dissertation, which can be further used for other research works. According to Bloch researchers at graduate level have stronger sense of authorship then undergraduate (Bloch, 2012). If these works are not reliable and credible without using and acknowledgment of other sources and evidences for support, these cannot be used for further research work.
