Section 1: Time Management

Benefits of effective time management

In today's world, every person is engulfed with a large number of personal and professional duties and tasks. This makes it essential to balance two kind of things, one the things that a person is required to do and another is the things that a person wants to do. Such a balance leads to success and contentment. Effective time management does not implies that a person remains busy all the time, it means deciding what one wants to achieve and proficiently managing the available time to pursue those objectives (Anonymous, 2008, pp.01).

Effective time management can provide the person numerous benefits. Foremost, it enables a person to complete all the assigned tasks and duties on time. Individual is able to accomplish the tasks in an effective way as there is no haphazard. Effective time management prevents a person from having work overload. Moreover, a person can accomplish the personal and professional goals without any stress or anxiety owing to effective time management, thus enhancing and increasing the productivity (Adams, 2001, pp.09-13).

Time management skills to achieve organisational and personal objectives

My personal and organisational objectives are interrelated with each other. I want to be a professional person who holds a managerial position in some reputed organisation. My objectives entails completing my education which includes my level 5 certificate, graduation and masters and then subsequently acquire an MTO position in an organisation. My organisational objectives includes striving hard in the organisation to move higher on the career ladder while making the organisation achieve its objective and eventually become an executive manager in the organisation.

Time management skills include prioritising, organising, persevering and evading procrastination (Hellstan, n.d., pp.05). As far as I analyse and discern my time management skills, I do have skills that can assist me to move towards my objectives, however, I lack in certain skills required for effective time management. An analysis of time management will provide a better idea of the areas of improvement.

Conducting a time management analysis to recognise areas for improvement

Conducting a time management analysis helps to identify the areas for improvement. Various tools are present for time management analysis. The tools that I have used to analyse my time management are activity logs along with the stress diary and to do lists (Appendix a, b, & c). These tools helped me to discern that the time management skill where I lack predominantly is the skill of prioritizing and organising. I distinguished this by analysing my activity logs, stress diary and to do lists. The tools clearly illustrate that most of the clumsiness and stress that I face is because of poor prioritising and organising. This was concluded by carefully looking on the tasks I waste time and doing the tasks that are not much important or urgent. Thus, these are the areas where I need to improve.
