Unhealthy Lifestyle of Students

Introduction

The purpose of this study is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge by exploring some relevant facts related to unhealthy lifestyle of students. Every person dreams of Healthy life, but very few people adhere to a healthy lifestyle. Healthcare providers are responsible for providing healthcare services to citizens; however, they cannot directly control one's health. There are many diseases which are uncontrollable, and associated with one's family health background and age. However, large number of diseases spread due to unhealthy lifestyle choices of students. There are many unhealthy habits which lead to health issues. These habits include alcohol abuse, lack of physical activities, poor diet, smoking, sexual abuse, and other. In this paper, the author will conduct a literature review based on the sources provided and other secondary sources. This review will identify the key issues the authors have raised and clearly identified references to the source materials.

Literature review

According to Webb (1998), the lifestyles of medical students differ little from those of other student groups, but that alcohol and illicit drug consumption is increasing in university students generally. Prospective studies are under way to establish whether medical students change their lifestyles at later stages of their course and after qualification. The healthy lifestyle is a set of behavioural patterns related to health of medical students, as determined by the choices people make according to the options available and the opportunities offered by their own lifestyle. Thus, the lifestyle can be understood as a health-related behaviour (such as the practice of physical activity) that is made possible or limited by the social situation, and living conditions. The epidemiological transition from acute to chronic disease is the main cause of death in our society, and has important implications for the health today (Webb, 1998, pp. 325-331).

Ardith (2008) claims that many college students practice unhealthful lifestyles, placing them at risk for developing serious health problems. The college students usually have a lot of activities that they should do. Such as watch a movie, play, study in the library, etc. It will have a negative impact to the adolescents themselves. Similarly, adolescents who work just sit in front of the television and just watch the movie. Besides that, the food that students are eating after school also is the cause of obesity. Junk food and fast food are the favourite food for the schoolchildren now. Fast food contains high saturated fats and calories. Fast foods are packed with high amount of sugars, carbohydrates, oil and so on. Nowadays, students prefer fast food and junk food more than fruits and vegetables. They get attracted to the delicious fast foods. These children don't indulge in any kind of physical activity to burn the calories consumed by them. They are glued to their television sets or computers. In such a condition, they tend to get obese. Chances are that these obese students might grow up to become obese adults.
