Introduction

The book is written by the collective effort of Howell and Sandra Patton along with Margaret Deiotte. The book deals with proposition of a system that takes into account the efforts of students, their struggles through a series of techniques of intervention. It also proposes ideas of how a student can go through the issue of problem solving. The book also proposes solutions to gauge the progress of students via proper collection of data and then proposes ideas and solutions to help students with their needs and requirements on individual basis to help solve their issues.

It addresses students and teachers who have to work together at each step to produce excellent results. The chapter begins with an insight into the problem of students with disabilities and why a system was required to cater to them in learning. The chapter addresses the issue that it is not only the students who are disabled have trouble in learning; there are other students included as well who usually belong to lower classes in the society with limited resources or students who are learners of the English language. The chapter states that such students should not be ignored until they fail their examinations and then focus should be shifted on them. They should be given proper attention from the very beginning so that they may not lack behind from their other class mates.

The chapter also talks about NLCB which manifests the idea that n child is left behind in the classroom and each child be given equal amount of attention so that they may not feel neglected and do better in their studies. With the idea pushing forward, the teachers and educators have begun to expect a lot more from each student as they started to believe that equal attention should get them equal results which is not the case.
