Electoral Democracy

In electoral democracy, a government is determined through popular sovereignty. It means that people of the country decide on the government, and have the ability and right to vote. However, most of the times electoral democracies are democracies in name only, and election are rigged. There is no competition and opposition to the ruling and powerful parties. Such democracies are characterized by high degree of corruption and poor governance in the countries (Philippe & Terry, 1991, pp.76).
