Introduction

The aim of this paper is to discuss the challenges of policing in twenty first century. The paper is referred to the book “Criminal Justice in America” by George F Cole and Christopher E Smith. The authors have comprehensively discussed the concept of policing and their challenges in Part II chapter no. 5. The law enforcement agencies as police aim to guarantee the rights of individuals facing major violent events as a riot, including the right to security of person.

Policing is the act of police which are uniformed and armed formation that serve the public and designed to protect the safety of people and to maintain security and public order. The policing include, protection of life and health of people and property against unlawful attacks in violation of these goods, protection of public order and safety, including ensuring peace in public places and in public means of transport and public transport, road traffic and on waters intended for common use. Policing aims initiating and organizing action to prevent the perpetration of offenses and criminal phenomena and cooperation in this field with state agencies, local governments and social organizations. Policing also include searching of persons and premises in the manner and cases provided for in the Code of Criminal Procedure and other laws. However, all these activities in policing are facing several challenges. The twenty first century have brought challenges for the Policing (Cole, Smith, 2007).

Discussion

The police officers are responsible for surveillance in the streets, parks, shops, public transport and surrounding dwellings represent the public authority closer to the society. His professional qualifications must be adequate that the public convinced require their aid, will have a timely and efficient help. The selection process of candidates should be strict so they can work on rigorous trainings so that they could face the 21st century challenges. The Candidate must go through case by case, vocation, mental skills and physical, the absence of criminal record, and even relationships with family and friends. They need to have the comprehensive training before acting as police officer. Therefore, police training must be ongoing and updated, taught by technical experts in different areas, either the members of professional bodies or other fields.

High level of training and a commitment in providing the service are prerequisites for the police to properly fulfill their duties. It is necessary that both budgets are kept permanently integrated so that the activity is guided by the best criteria and, of course, that the practice not divorce what should be the best police performance in every situation. The training are provided to police officers, introducing the use of technological tools and leveraging the latest knowledge about the types of crimes occurring in our environment, so that the intelligence become able to solve the problems that arise-is the main weapon for preventing and clearing up crimes.
