Turkey: Islam and Democracy

Abstract

This article is to analyze the scope possibility of non-agonistic relationship between democracy and Islam within Turkey. This paper elucidates the concepts of democracy and Islam in turkey and points the correlation between Islam and democracy and how they maintained balance. Secularism, geo-political factors, nature and development of the AKP defends the need for stimulus external democratic states to be able the adoption of democracy as a form of government and the role of the military.

Introduction

Turkey has become the new model country for the millions of Muslims who now fight for their freedom. As a democracy with an Islamic touch, Turkey could function as a bridge between Europe and the Arab world. However, the "narrow-minded", leaders of the European Union doesn't want that Turkish nation could join them.

The political and economic influence of Turkey in the region has continued to increase. The country has become the 16th world economy. In this position, Turkey, a candidate for joining the European Union, can function as a bridge between Europe and the Arab world. This is said by the Turkish intellectuals, but Europe does not seem to want to commit. Mainly resistance is made from the Germany and France. And in the Netherlands, one of the Freedom Party of populist rejects the possibility, because Turkey is an Islamic country.

This denotes a bit visionary attitude. In their mediocrity, European politicians do not understand the impact of the Turkish model in current events in the Arab countries. This article has the purpose examining the Possibility of non-agonistic relationship between Islam and democracy in Turkey. The paper will elucidate the concepts of democracy and Islam; defend the need for external stimulation of democratic states to be able to adopt democracy to the form of government and the indispensability of separation between state and religion.

Secularism in Turkey, the republic has a constant nature and of particular importance a principle, but it has a different application of the European Union countries. How secularism in Turkey's EU accession process and Turkey will be affected. The kind of format in the process of implementation of secularism debate and lead to expansions age are one of the important issues that should be explored. In this study, European Secularism in Turkey secularism practiced in countries of the Union of mutual analysis will also be made in further discussion.

This will also include the nature and development of AKP in Turkey. In 2002, Turkey saw the second time in its modern history, when a party of Islamic identity, AKP came into power. The AKP won parliamentary elections under a new leader, Erdogan, contrary to previous experience of Islamist Refah Party, whose former Prime Minister, prioritized in its program integration with the Islamic World.
