Discussion Analysis

Background of the books

The book “TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” is a story of Scout Finch and Jem, her brother, in the years of 1930s in Alabama. The author Harper Lee holds the tool of characters for exploring the racism and civil right in the boundaries of segregated southern United States. The story is the narrative perspective of Scout Finch, in which people learn about the life of his Father, Atticus Finch. His Father was an attorney who completely strives to prove the innocence of a black man unfairly blamed of rape; and regarding a Boo Radley, a strange neighbor who save Jem Scout and her brother from being murdered. By learning from the experience of their Father and meanderings neighborhood, they understand the true meaning of the world that no fairness exists against the prejudice (Terry, pp.22). The ethical voice of the HARPER in 'TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD' is personified by Atticus Finch, who is practically unique in the entire novel that has understood and experienced evil without any loss of his faith in the human capacity for goodness. The great depiction of the novel portrays the both good and evil quality in their nature (Durst, pp. 32).

In the portrayal of “The reader" by BERNARDSchlink, the story is about the young boy, Michael Berg who is just a 15 year-old lives under the soil of West Germany. Michael became the regular visitor of Hanna's apartment where they usually have physical intercourse. He was mentally controlled by Hanna and she was also the dominate sex in their relationship (SCHLINK, pp.43). Michael eventually fell in love with Hanna but he did not find the same emotional attachment in return. During the visits, Hanna asked Michael to read the novel aloud for her and so he did. Suddenly, one day, Hanna completely vanishes from Michael's life and went somewhere. Michael was guilty by this astonishing end of his relationship. Few years later, being an undergraduate student of law, Michael attended war trial in Heidelberg and he became completely shocked to see Hanna as the criminal. She used to work as a guard in an attentiveness camp. Hanna committed a dreadful war crime (SCHLINK, pp.43).
