Introduction

Trouble in paradise takes in view the number of controversies which were surrounding the project of Paseo Caribe. This was a project concerned with real estate development in the district of San Juan which is the capital of Puerto Rico. The concerned parties of this venture had to face the challenges of public and municipal defiance, vast demonstrations, excessive intrusion of the government agencies, a number of legal dealings and actions and many other delays which cost them heaps.

Discussion

Paseo Caribe had to face many controversies (Luscombe, 2008). The reason of all these delays and actions was a series of accusations that the project was causing various irregularities related to the granting of permission procedures. Another crucial reason was that the Paseo Caribe was being built on the land which was a communal area. One of the key feature of Paseo project was that the location where it was located was one of the most prime tourist spot, it also hold much value historically, and was also very significant culturally. These features also caused the Paseo Caribe project to be the centre of much debate and criticism.

Another region of concern by many people was that Paseo Caribe poses a threat to the conservation of the Fort of San Jeronimo, and it might cause a restriction on the access of local public to the Fort and also the area of beach which surrounded it. There was also a huge protest against the project by the general local inhabitants (Luscombe, 2008). According to them, Paseo Caribe will cause a much greater increase in the volume of tourists which will upset the peace and calm of their residential areas. T the time of the starting of the project, the concerned parties of the project did not expect that the local public of the area will create such antipathy and opposition towards the project. They realized that they should have informed the local residents about the profits, benefits and remunerations which the project will bring to them and their locality (Luscombe, 2008). Among the various benefits offered by the project, the most important was that it would bring employment opportunities for the local residents and therefore, eventually it will also enhance the economy of the area because the increased tourist activity. This case discuss in detail the obstacles and short comings which arise due to the lack of managing the relations of shareholders in an efficient and proper way (Parker & Prochnau, 2008).

In contrast to the United Nations Millennium development goals, the Paseo Caribe poses a considerable threat to the wildlife as well as to the water supplies of the area. According to many environmental activists, Paseo Caribe would be devastation to the coastline which is quiet swarming and overcrowded.
