NEW YORK, NY- Whoever first said "everything old is new again" must have been a member of the fashion industry. How else can we explain the reemergence of leggings, ankle boots, and most recently, faux fur? Faux fur has been cropping up everywhere, from runway to street looks, and looks especially fresh in cropped and vest silhouettes. This season's must have is; fur vest, more women are adding this fashion staple to their wardrobe.

Throughout the seventies and eighties, fur was extremely popular during that era (Gale Kaur 2004). It was a way life. It was a life style geared towards the rich and famous.

History repeats itself as women all are flocking to stores to buy fur. It has become one of the chicest, newest, hottest items on trend right now are faux and real fur vests. And this trend is fast catching up in NY. More women buy fur in New York than in any other American city (Vognsen 2009).

However some women wear fur as a status symbol and do not follow trends because they want to stand out in the crowd. Some believe Fur vests is a trend of the moment, but not fur, fur has been around for a long time.

Versatility

Lucie Benito, Associate Buyer of accessories at Bergdorf Goodman, said” The best thing about wearing fur vests is the versatility and it doesn't have to be authentic for a woman to look her absolute best, I don't believe in wearing real fur, but the faux fur vests is cost effective.”

In a time during economic hardship and great adversity, the fashion world is looking to create versatile accessories that women can wear with multiple items. The fur vests are classic, sophisticated and a chic investment piece for fall. The price of the vest, varies from $79-$500 depending on whether it is faux or real (Cunningham 2008). The vests come in a variety of colors, animal prints, trimmed, bagged and dip-dyed.

Designers' obsession

Many designers continue to have a fascination with the fur industry. Many are looking to create different ways to renew the luxury world of fashion.
