Tom, a 34 year old man, was recently diagnosed with asthma by his doctor. Tom lives with his wife Julie. Tom works in a marketing company. He stays home on weekends, and he and his wife do cleaning and gardening of the house. Recently, Tom suffered with the chest pain and tiredness.
He went to hospital and he came to know about Asthma. Asthma refers to long term disease in which airways are narrowed and in some cases inflamed. Whistling sound during breathing, tightness of chest and coughing are mainly caused by asthma. Upon by questioning by his doctor, he revealed that he has been feeling tired, having trouble sleeping, and frequent breathe changes. Tom attends my clinic and from information I obtained from him, I came to know that he is having frequent respiratory symptoms. His frequent breathe changes refer to the shortness of breath. He also reported that he is having a problem of tightness in the chest. He was suffering with the early stage of asthma. He was having medical treatment of Asthma and having few medications to overcome this disease. I made it clear to him that Asthma cannot be completely cured. However, treatment of this disease could help him manage Asthma. As far as his life is concerned, he can enjoy it normally by knowing the symptoms of asthma attack and managing the possible treatment of it by following the instructions as provided by the doctor or any other health care provider.

Formulating the problem of patient and beneficial objective
Asthma is a disease in which airways of the lugs are narrowed and in some cases inflamed. Whistling sound during breathing, tightness of chest and coughing are mainly caused by asthma (National heart lung and blood institute, 2012). Asthma tightens the muscles surrounding the airways and as a result the amount of air that can pass by is reduced. This causes the Asthma patient to breathe hardly. Dust, changes in the weather, hair of animals, usual stress and smoking are asthma triggers that are found mainly in sensitive peoples. Asthma is also a genetic disease mainly followed by parents (Bronchial asthma; Exercise-induced asthma, 2012).
Asthma is characterized by convulsive tightening of the smooth muscle in the bronchioles, which results exceptionally hard breathing. There is no particular age group suffering from this disease. It can happen at a very early age, or in the middle of age, or at any time in life. Analysis has disclosed that almost 3 to 5 percent people suffered from asthma at some part of their life. Asthma causes hindrance in breathing and makes it hard to exhale the air. As a result, asthma patient suffers with the deficiency of oxygen and overindulgence of carbon dioxide, causing the risk of his or her life.
