The four readings, The Port Huron Statement (1962), Betty Friedan's The Feminine Mystique (1963), Martin Luther King Jr., “Letter from Birmingham Jail” (1963) and The Digger Papers (1968) all have one central idea in them. The idea that each of these readings presents surrounds a change or transition that they want in society. Although there are no implicit connections between the four readings they all belong to the 1960's and talk about some form of transition.
