Introduction

The Pygmalion motif is clearly reflected in the movie Miss Congeniality which was made in the year 2000, and it can also be referred to as the Pygmalion template (Verdoodt, 2004). The producers have made different variations in the movie based on the core elements elaborated in Shaw's Pygmalion motif and Cukor's My Fair Lady. Either subtle or obvious intertextuality is used, in which the characters and plot are referred to explicitly and slight allusions are made by using mise-en-scène.
