Challenges Faced by MNCs in Training and Development

Introduction

Today, globalization has become the centre of attraction. Many companies and businesses are trying to reach out every imaginable place in order to expand their businesses. For this purpose, the companies have to apply the global HR practices. The expatriates, who are hired for an operational location of the host country, must possess necessary skills either technical or managerial. Assigning these expatriates to foreign posts is considered to be the program of MNC's management development (Edwards & Rees, 2007, p.193).

It is mandatory that only those people are hired who possess the ability of acting locally but think globally at the same time. The MNCs do not only train and develop the people on a global basis but also make them work on a regional basis. The concept of knowledge management is undoubtedly important for MNCs because they have to manage the transfer of explicit and tacit knowledge among several units of a firm which is operating on a global basis. It requires MNCs to enhance the factor of knowledge sharing (Harzing & Pinnington, 2010, pp.346-347).
