Traffic

Introduction

Traffic congestion is a national issue for many countries and has gotten worse in regions of all sizes. There are numerous intersections which has its operations in heavy loaded situations and at that time the demand of traffic is quite high. The capacity is not enough to meet high demand of the traffic. There is a large portion of literature which has been written regarding proper management of high traffic during various circumstances. This is the reason why the constant request is made by the people for the development of an efficient traffic system. It has become increasingly obvious that successful traffic management requires efficient methods to identify and model oversaturated conditions. The issue is serious and it needs considerable attention from the concerned authorities. Therefore, all the issues related to traffic will be discussed in detail.

Discussion

There are several researches in the past that has been conducted for diagnosing the problems associated with traffic. However, some of them failed to identify the conclusion related to the problem. There are some important terms that closely deal with the problems of high volume of traffic. Some of the researchers proposed solutions to the problems that were related to the capacity that can be increased for managing traffic in the best possible way. Furthermore, successful mitigation strategies require the ability both to detect the onset of oversaturation and to quantify its severity. Thus it is imperative to have an implementable and quantifiable metric of oversaturation as well as a coherent methodology to identify such situation. Existing traffic flow models are designed to model continuum freeway traffic, and thus have deficiencies when applied to congested arterials where traffic is interrupted by traffic lights. This is particularly true for large arterial networks during oversaturated conditions. One of the most significant long-term impacts of ...
