Introduction

One of the major airlines of the world is a subsidiary of the emirates group. The airline is Emirates. Headquartered in Dubai, U.A.E., the airline operates in excess of 2000 flights weekly. These are mainly passenger flights. These flights route to more than 60 countries and over 100 different destinations. Emirates group has an employee base of more than 50,000 employees. The group is under the ownership of the government of Dubai. Emirates sky group division undertakes the cargo activities of the airlines. The Dubai International Airport (DIA) considered being the largest Middle East airport that covering the whole region and the airport also has the capacity to accommodate the large flights based on the quality that the management is totally dedicated towards implementing the total quality management approach. The parent airline of the airport is Emirates, and the airline is globally renowned and is ranked amongst the globe's top ten airlines, in terms of fleet size, passengers, revenue etc. In 2009, a survey published its finding claiming the Emirates to hold the 7th spot in the world's best airlines listings.

The objective of this paper is to understand and discuss the TQM practices at Dubai International Airport.

Discussion

The DIA and Emirates are the two companies that strategically positioned themselves to reap the larger market share of growing Asian market. The airport management understood the fact that the world started moving towards the Dubai; no matter if they use Emirates or any other airline, there mission is to deploy necessary and innovative strategies, which will enforce the airport's position as viable in the region. This managerial strategy is justifiable by the fact that the management getting positive feedback from the users who travelling frequently to Dubai and also from those who travelling rarely.

The concept of equity is an essential move towards implementing TQM. For instance, emirates faced a severe challenge from the labor and the employees. Throughout the world, the airlines were cutting their cost by reducing their labor; however, Emirates encouraged its emotional labor by providing them training, so that it could meet the set standards of TQM. The best example of implementing TQM standards was that the in-flight attendants displayed desired emotions like greeting the customers with smile and showed enthusiasm, which was the actual Turing point for Emirates.
