Introduction

Tourism websites play an important role in the tourism industry. They are an important source of information for the customers and provide them updated information. These websites should be developed according to the recent methods in order to effectively communicate the information to the customers. Studies have revealed significant number of changes can occur in the tourism industry with the integration of these websites in providing relevant information and can help business to run more effectual and speedy (Beldona, 2008, 135).

Literature review

The growing numbers of customer's now purchasing tourism products through websites and perceive that a website's image and usability directly affects their purchase intentions. It is predicted that by 2015, the majority of consumers will purchase holidays through the Internet, and that the digital society will change their purchase behaviour. Moreover, location-based information and services are not only convenient for tourists, but can also be made available for residents to enhance local cohesion, and support the interactivity between the community and the industry.

Over the years, significant changes have occurred in the information and technology industry in the way the tourism industry offer services and how they operate businesses through websites that comprise this industry. IT has made great benefits such as better understanding the needs of customers, providing better delivery of services, reaching more customers and optimizing their resources managed to increase its efficiency (Bickart, 2009, 31).

The most important application in tourism is the systems for online booking, sales of services by internet and systems for mining of data. It is concluded that well implemented information technologies such as websites result in better interaction between hotels, restaurants, agencies, travel and airline with customers, achieving benefits for all.
