Introduction

This study is based on the topic “To what extent the use of drug is normalized by law and values in today's society”. Firstly this study provides an introduction to the topic including the purpose and significance of the study. Secondly it presents a review of related literature. Subsequent to the literature review, this study provides the discussion and analysis. Moreover, it concludes the study, with the provision of future research and recommendation.

Discussion

Drug use is a constant in every society, but structuring each society makes consumption which confers particular characteristics. Undoubtedly, the relationship a society established with the drugs in it is consumed, constantly evolving, enrolling in the processes of social transformation. The place that a society assigns to drugs, and the perception that can generate from the latter, is the result of own social functioning of a culture (Fountain, 2007, pp. 1-12).

On the other hand, the drug policy is a reflection of the existing relations in the society. Usually, Society is little concerned with consumption by members of certain substances as such, but it is concerned about the impacts caused by such consumption. For example, if it is established that vitamins improve the health of people, their consumption would be encouraged if the same substance undermine health or adversely affect human behaviour, the consumption of these substances will be contained. If such substances are fast-acting poisons, the prevention of their use are simple and effective. Difficulties occur when adverse health effects occur in remote time. In this case, society needs a long time to establish that this substance has caused the data implications. An example of such a substance can serve as tobacco. For example, in the nineteenth century in America among the upper classes became quite fashionable to sniff cocaine. Then there could be no question of banning it for the ruling strata of that society. However, gradually the habits of the upper classes began to copy the former slaves; Negros that intoxicated began to make aggressive actions. Over time, the upper classes were phased out on cocaine, and among the lowest it has begun to spread more and more, and only cocaine fell under the ban.
