To explore the reasons behind the initiation of the “Green Movement” in Iran

Abstract

In this paper I will be looking towards the reasons that led to the initiation of the “Green Movement” in Iran. That can also be known as the struggle for democracy and independence which is observed to be continuous that could be simply summarized as the contemporary political history. Since, Iran has been constantly going through the colonial rivalries. A brief study of this subject will provide us with deeper knowledge regarding the consequences that led to the people of Iran demanding for the “Green Movement” and coming out on the street protesting for the purpose of attaining democracy and independence.

INTRODUCTION

Historical Background

In this paper we will be looking briefly into the reasons that resulted to the beginning of the “Green Movement”. Throughout the history of Iran, it can be observed that this nation has been constantly struggling for the independence and the democratic development where as they have been controlled by the government and monarchs that had considerable commitment towards them or practically the segments that were in power like the “big boys” where their control usually held no democratic authority or even effectiveness in this matter. This long term resistance can be observed over two hundred years. Nevertheless, in the year 1907 to 1911 the first kind of the Constitutional Revolution phenomenon within the area was the extraordinary demonstration of the objectives that were observed to be persuaded through the Iranian polity in significant ways. This “Constitutional Revolution” was the dominant effort for establishing the publicly legal system of governance with contrast towards the established monarchial authority of “God-given”.

Problem statement

The problem area in this study is that region of Iran never had a stable democratic and independent governing power that required something as the “Green Movement”. However, even the “Green Movement” was not observed to be the accurate solution for this long term struggle.

Thesis statement

Iran desperately required a change that was in the form of the “Green Movement” because throughout the history the struggle for a modern government is visible.

Purpose of the study

The purpose for studying this area is determining the aspects or circumstance that led to the establishment of the “Green Movement” and whether it fulfilled the requirement of the Iranian population. That the various literatures reflect that population of Iran demanded a stable government body.

Aims and Objectives

There are certain aims that led to the need for studying this area that will be discussed as follows:

Understanding the significant needs of the Iranian region for demanding the establishment of the “Green Movement”

Observing the “Green Movement” in a way that filled the lacking area of democracy and independence

Discovering the different ways media was involved in the “Green Movement” that was capable of bringing a change

Issues that came along with the establishment of the “Green Movement”
