In this study we try to explore the concept of “project management” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “to analyze the techniques and the tools used by Babcock Rail in the project management process and investigate the relationship between project management factors and project performance “. The research also analyzes many aspects of “Babcock role in the project management, how they handle their project and what are tools and techniques which are suitable for Babcock Rail” and tries to gauge its effect on “global market”.Table of Contents

This research focuses on the various aspects of “to analyze the techniques and the tools used by Babcock Rail in the project management process and investigate the relationship between project management factors and project performance in the U.K and comprises of the following chapters:

Introduction

Babcock Rail is mindful that there is no such thing as a “best model” for all project procurement. We aim to work collaboratively no matter what the contract type to ensure a perfect fit with customer requirements. We have delivered projects under traditional contract forms such as design and construct (D&C) and construct only, as well as forms of procurement that provide a greater range of flexibility such as alliances, early contractor involvement, managing contractor, public-private partnerships, and design build operate and maintain contracts. Irrespective of the procurement form, the leadership and people of Babcock Rail have a collaborative work ethic and we actively work in partnership with customers and stakeholders to ensure a “win-win” mentality and encourage business sustainability for all.

Literature Review

Babcock Rail is a specialist national business within Babcock providing project development and delivery services to the rail industry. It was established on a solid foundation of over 20 years of experience delivering rail infrastructure projects through Babcock's core engineering business. Babcock Rail works with other Babcock regional and national businesses to ensure that the best team is formed to develop and deliver rail projects. From alliance managers, project managers, design managers, railway safety professionals and railway engineers, to railway operators and supervisors - Babcock Rail's teams combine the optimal mix of project management skill and railway expertise with the necessary experience in managing the peculiar risks associated with working in live operating railway systems. This approach enables Babcock Rail to focus on railway safety, innovation and new technology, resources capacity, knowledge management, and superior risk management in collaboration with our customers and key stakeholders.
