Art Analysis

Portrait of a Woman with a Dog, ca. 1769------------ Jean Honoré Fragonard

The “Portrait of a Woman with a Dog” is made by French artist, Jean Honoré Fragonard in the year of 1769. The costume recalls the court dress of Marie de Medici in the painting series of Rubens. Fragonard beautifully patterns this painting by giving it a real touch by the usage of soft colors. The element of lines in the portrait is reflecting the contouring lines and smoothly sketches the entire picture of a women and dog. The element of scaling is there but does not appropriately part both woman and dog with each other. The shape of the portrait is pragmatic and gives a genuine look (Lidwell, Kritina & Jill, 2010). The color contrast is suitable and is not very vibrant, because Fragonard might want to give real touch of the society at that time. The portrait is balanced and does not reflect complex patterns and designs. The rhythm and motion is present in the painting as it gives a realistic appearance and shows aliveness in it. Synchronization is greatly present and we can easily see unity in the picture.

Angel of the Revelation, ca. 1803-5---------- William Blake

The picture of “Angel of the Revelation” is a miraculous origin as William Blake does not illustrate biblical matters. Blake presents a figure of Angel with simple patterns of the picture that reflects the beautiful demonstration of its revelation. The element of lines in the picture is accurate and contains decoration lines for further enhancing the portrayal. The scaling is good crafted because the focal point of the picture is clear. The shape of the picture is fine, but reflects complex designs especially in the footer of the picture. The color contrast is beautifully executed for giving a realistic look with the intellectual knowledge of bright and contrast. The picture is balanced and shows appearances of angels. The rhythm and motion in the picture is present as it seems that angels are trying to move somewhere. The unity is present but in a puzzling manner as it becomes difficult to understand the unity among the key angel and other side angels.

Bust of Patroclus, 1843-------- William Henry Fox Talbot

The picture displays the plaster cast of William Henry in the form of salt paper print. The pattern is not complex and lines in the portrait are smoothly sketched in the entire picture. The element of scaling is accurate because it was a plaster cast and must be measured on equal distribution. The shape of the portrait is pragmatic and gives a genuine look; however it does not give a look ...
