Perception of Time

Introduction

Perception of time is a subject of study within neuroscience and psychology that refers to the subjective time of an individual's life. This is measured by the perception of an individual related to the duration of the continuous and indefinite events throughout his life. It is very important to note that the perception of time of another individual could not be understood easily but would be studied objectively through a number of experiments. Different people have different perceptions abut the passage of time in different situations that they go through. The core focus of this paper is to discuss the idea of the contraction of time while having fun along with supporting this idea or concept with the aid of selected studies reviewed for the completion of this study.

Discussion

It is very obvious that different people have different perceptions about the passage of time while going through different situations during their lives. The idea that has been selected for this paper is that time contracts when people have fun. This is a wide perception of a large number of people that time flies when they spend time in their favorite activities or with their favorite people. Various researches have been conducted in regards to the speed of the passage of time involving responses that time passes fast when people are having fun, and time passes slowly when people are bored. It has been observed that most of the people who perceive that time passes quickly when they are having fun are found to be very busy enjoying their time. In this case, people do not really care about the passage of time because of being busy in enjoying their favorite activities. It is very obvious that time passing fast or slow are two different phenomenon, but it is also very true that the perception of the fast passage of time while having fun is very obvious in the society.

The first article that has been selected for study is “Time Estimation: Effects Of Cognitive Task, Presentation Rate, And Delay” written by William F. Vitulli And Heather A. Shepard. It has been observed in this study includes the identification of the variables of which time is a function that is extended throughout a variety of people, things and places. In addition to this, a measurement of the subjective estimation of time as a function of complexity of cognitive task with the help of the rate of stimulus information, arithmetic and recall, and the delay between the estimations of time and the stimulus presentation. On the other hand, a mixed analysis of the factorial design presented that the retrospective estimations of time were significant daerent as a function of the key effects of the race of delay and digit presentation. It was further observed that the values for the ratios of the immediate versus delayed estimates and fast versus slow rates represented the overestitnates of the real time (Vitulli, 1996). The data has been discussed in this study on the basis of ...
