Abraham Lincoln 1861-1865

Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, was born on February 12, 1809 in the county of La Rue of the State of Kentucky. He is recognized for his fight against slavery and its expansion into the territory of the United States. (Griffin & Nico, 2008)

The Whig Party disappears Lincoln in 1854 and is dedicated to the founding of the Republican Party in Illinois, and his powerful oratorical skills will attract the public for supporting his candidacy for the Republican Party. After several rounds of voting during the Republican National Convention, Lincoln defeated his opponents from the same party in 1860, including Stephen A. Douglas, his former opponent in the Senate, becoming the official candidate of the Republican Party for President of the United States.

The first problem he faced in office was the impending war of secession. In his office defended the union of the United States during the Civil War, defeating the Confederate States of America consist of the southern states.

His oratory power reached its peak during the Civil War, when he delivered the famous Gettysburg Address, which has gone down in history as one of the most powerful speeches of all time.

He made the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, which granted the same freedom to the slaves and introduced important amendments to the Constitution to support the cause of the new black citizens of America. In 1864, the country still at war, Lincoln for reelection, gained victory in 1864 and starting a new presidential term in March 1865.

Thanks to Lincoln's decision to put in front of their armies to General Ulysses S. Grant, the Civil War was heading to an end. Lincoln then set up a plan for rebuilding the country. (Noll, 2004)John Quincy ...
