Abstract

Since September 11, 2001, threats to U.S. national security continue to increase. Any strategy to protect the homeland must include both academicians and practitioners' recommendations about security and security studies. An extensive review of the literature found no universal definition of security studies and no paradigm to guide security studies research. The problem is there is no single universal security studies strategy or paradigm to guide academic security studies research. The main purpose of this paper is to discuss about Homeland Security. In this paper we are covering the threats To Homeland Security 5 years in the future.

Introduction

Homeland security is a term broadly synonymous with domestic security and originally intended to reflect government plans to thwart terrorist attacks against the United States from within the nation's borders, such as occurred on September 11, 2001. However, particularly since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the term has become synonymous for preparation and response to disasters, both man-made and natural.

To differentiate terms, one must be careful not to confuse homeland security with national security and national defense, which refer to military operations that begin at U.S. borders and extend outward, such as missile defense against an enemy force or air, sea, and ground operations against enemies of the U.S. government on any front. Additional care must be taken not to immediately attribute everything relating to homeland security to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), particularly since the states have initiatives of their own that operate independently of DHS. The term may apply to private homeland security initiatives as well, such as those by the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army (Bullock, 2009).

Discussion

Homeland Security is the term used for the efforts a State make to maintain its security level and ensure a peaceful and terror-free environment in the country. Special attention was given to this term in the year 2011 when a significant event of terrorist attack took place in the United States. This measure for security is adopted by the State to take preventative measures for combating terrorism and recovering process after any damage is caused by terrorist attacks. Response to disasters and immigration checks is also covered under the scope of Homeland Security.

The incident of 9th September, 2001 left its mark in the history of United States of America increased demand for Homeland Security policies. Establishing a department specifically to deal with this concern was the government's priority. The protection of the nation became necessary to maintain the right balance security (Carafano and Sauter, 2005).

Homeland Security Department

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a department of cabinet established by the federal government of United States. Creation of this department was in response to the 9/11 attack with a primary motive of protection of state against terrorist activities and attacks.
