Background
Alcohol is a part of almost every other culture in the world especially of the modern culture. People all around the world consume alcohol in order to relax, to celebrate to socialize or even for its taste. Some societies all around the sphere are facing the challenge that they are balancing the place with the alcohol and the health issues in their societies. Many cultures prohibit alcohol due to religious hostiles, as their religion prohibits the consumption of alcohol. Such as Catholic, Indians, Muslims and etc. More or less same situations were being faced by the United States in the eighteenth century till early nineteenth century when many activist, most of them were Catholic came out of their houses in order to demand a barred over the consumption of almost any kind of liquors in United States. But later on, during the era of 1980s the activities of banning the alcohol had been mounted, which were mostly headed by the religious groups in the United States of America (Kelly, n.d). The purpose of those groups behind running and heading such movements was proposed by them as they believed that alcohol (intoxicating) beverages and especially drunkenness as a hazard to the nation. They usually categorized this practice as a “National Curse”. This revivalism sooner or later assisted in order to motivate the movement to end slavery also.
The first legislation held in place by Massachusetts which was appeared in 1838 according to that the sale of more than fifteen gallons of spirit was prohibited in Massachusetts. But this legislation was repealed right after two years of its commandment. This repealing gave birth to the Civil War. After taking decades these movements finally got proposed by the Congress Party in the late 1920s as eighteenth amendment.
