Introduction

In this paper we present and make known the Thin Client technology (Thin client computing) giving an overall view. The Client computing is a concept used daily in business and this concept are based on the client / server however it needs to centrally manage the assets of the organization. Thin client is an input device and information display (Terminal). Physically, the thin client is a compact and silent computer without a hard drive (without fans), loading the main operating system which occurs on the server. All custom applications are running on a terminal server (application server), but the user is completely transparent.

Types of Client Computing

Client computing refers to a system in which a computer accesses a service on another computer remotely, in this specific case we talk about a dumb terminal with little to or no processing power that a server uses to perform operations , and has no processing capability only sends the terminal and displays the information that must be processed, this model is known as thin client computing and was popularized in 1993 by Oracle, the other major branch of the client computing is fat client but that the leave for later (Yang, 2003). Some of the most attractive advantages of this model are that system administration is done in a centralized and easier to manage security in the data being stored on the server.

Thin client computing is a model in which applications are executed on a centralized server, and an application's logic is separate from its user interface, so only keystrokes, mouse events, and screen updates as opposed to program code and data travel the network. In addition a thin client is a computer network architecture client-server depends primarily on the central server for processing tasks. It has as the main function, manage the input and output between the user and the remote server. A thick client, in contrast, processes as much as possible and passes only data for communications and storage to the server.

Many thin client devices running only web browsers or remote desktop software, meaning that all significant processing occurred on the server. However, thin clients can run complete operating systems such as GNU / Linux Debian, qualifying them as diskless nodes or hybrid clients. Some thin clients are also called "access terminals." The term "Thin Client" in terms of hardware, includes any device marketed or used as a thin client in the original definition, even if their actual capabilities are much greater. The term is also sometimes used in an even broader sense which includes diskless nodes (Lai, 2002).
