Change Theory and Force Field Analysis: Kurt Lewin (Freezing-Moving-Refreezing)

Nurses identify the need for change in Freezing Stage. Constructing awareness, imminent change and process acceptance are few examples. The second stage relates to the new job, new skills, and new rolls which are entitled to changing responsibilities. The thirst stage is about the changes in the person. This stage is known as refreezing stage. There is the possibility that individuals may slip back to pre-changing policies and procedures. According to Lewin theory, he assumes that behavior is a dynamic forces balance that works in opposite directions. Dynamic forces are opposed by Restraining forces i.e. individual pushed in the opposing direction. For instances, restraining forces consist of personal defense methods. The goals within the Dynamic forces and Restraining forces are just to gain equilibrium between them. It is a stage where driving and restraining forces are equally balance. At this stage, no change takes place. This theory has been termed as time-tested since it is easily applied flied theory which is frequently measured the essence of change models. These are much suitable for personal, groups and also for organizational change (Kritsonis, 2004).

Nurses utilize this theory when introducing new technologies, evidence-based practice along with service-centered care. Besides this, Lewin gives more importance to joint ownership of change with the client. Unfreezing stage which evaluate the problem for instance Boone County Hospital. It embraces collaboration for better improvement in employees. It also increases patient satisfaction score, construct multi-disciplinary partnership and move toward the interventions i.e. teaching or educational material, in-service sessions along with standards of reinforce. Moving stage stress on to accomplish change i.e. at Boone County Hospital there is computerized reports and data review and continuously monitoring satisfaction. ...
