Psychodynamic is the systematic study of the psychological forces which underscore human behavior. It is a dynamic relationship between humans' conscious motivation and unconscious motivation. It is specifically related to the individuals, intimate relationships and processes and life of the mind. It is a psychotherapy that is useful in complicated, community based medical conditions. Furthermore, it involves unconscious processes of mind, psychological defenses, poignant relationships, a developmental perception, regimented use of the person for curing, and communications in all ways as material for treatment (Fine & Fine, 2011).
Particularly, in this paper, we will identify current strategies for treatment of common presenting problems based on a specific theoretical orientation in view of the current standards of care. This paper also provides a theoretical model as it influences the manner in which the counselor helps clients, role of questioning in assessment and intervention as appropriate to each modality, and the influence of factors of gender and ethnicity in the counseling relationship.
History of Psychodynamics
The history of psychodynamics started at the early nineteenth century and twentieth century. Freud thought out of the mental patients in the clinical work, but he believed he observed these principles can be applied to both normal behavior and abnormal behavior. Psychodynamics was considered as a "theory of action within the spiritual forces" and describes influences on mood and behavior of people similar to physical laws of momentum and usual consideration of the time behavior in outer space (Cortina, 2010). Psychodynamics wants to shed light on the trigger mental processes as responses to certain external and internal events and influences. Psychodynamics mainly plays a role in the pathology of personality and psychoanalysis , which explores the interaction between conscious and unconscious mental processes. There it is defined as the co-operation and conflict between different psychological tendencies forces such as impulses, motives and emotions. Freud used the terminology introduced economic aspects metapsychology. Moreover, the term psychodynamics is also of more general importance in the deep psychology and psychosomatic medicine in the diagnosis of psychiatric disorders and creating treatment plans and priorities.
