Introduction

Ethics are the key cornerstone for any business to be successful in today's world and have an impact on the surroundings. Reviewing the list of ethical companies from Ethisphere.com, the company that I have chosen for this assignment is Microsoft. It is one of the leading software companies in the world and has a presence in numerous countries. The company has a wide range of products that include software such as Windows 7 and hardware such as Xbox Gaming Console. The dominance and massive presence are due to its ethical standards of conducting it business (Ethisphere.com, 2013).

Ethical Conduct

Microsoft has displayed ethical conduct throughout its history and has been treating its employees, consumers and the environment in the best morally responsible way. In the following section, their conduct towards these three elements has been examined.

Consumers

Microsoft has conducted ethical behavior towards its consumers in various ways as consumers are a valuable part for the organization. It has shown moral responsibility towards its consumers by delivering quality products and services; the products and solutions are designed and developed to meet the customers, consumers and it partners requirement and expectation. Microsoft continuously seeks new and advance way to improve, update and develop new products, services and solutions for its consumers. It also strives to protect the privacy and confidentiality of its consumers by incorporating high security levels and continuously education its customers (Microsoft.com, 2013).

Microsoft has shown ethical conduct towards its consumers by disclosing and publishing timely documents and reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission and on other public domains. Microsoft maintains this level of transparencies and has shown timely, accurate, fair and honest display of information for its consumers and all other related parties. The advertising and marketing activities of Microsoft to its consumers are also conducted in an ethical manner; all of these activities are based on true, accurate and concrete facts.

Environment

Microsoft pays strong attention to its environment and the surrounding communities. It is devoted for the betterment and development of the environment and those being affected by it. The ethical conduct towards the environment by Microsoft is done respecting the environment and protecting the natural resources. It has replaced and implemented various alternate sources of energy in different business and production facilities. It has installed solar panels in the majority of its facilities to power the plant. For instance, in 2008 Microsoft has implemented over two thousand solar panels in Silicon Valley, where they generated electricity to power other facilities in its neighborhood as well. On site campus of Microsoft, different transportation services use other forms of alternate fuels to power the transportation vehicle. For instance, there are numerous hybrid cars and shuttles present on its campus that take the employees from one place to another; hence saving fuel and protecting the environment (Jennings, 2012).

Microsoft is highly devoted for improving and for the betterment of the society. It is evolved in numerous community service and charitable ...
