Wal-Mart is an American based retailer that has its retail stores worldwide. It has the chains of big discounted departmental and warehousing store. According to the Fortune Global 500 list in 2012, Wal-Mart is considered as the third biggest public company around the world. It has more than two million employees around the world. It is family inherited business and is one of the most valued companies not only in United States but also worldwide.
This case is related to the controversies that are being faced by Wal-Mart. It has been assessed that although Wal-mart is giving a huge amount of profit to the United States economy, but at the same time is negatively affecting the small business and economies. Whichever the town it enters, it affects and limits the ability of other retailers in the town to survive while affecting their profits to large extent. The great competition that Wal-Mart gives to other retailers has now become a serious issue for small scale economies.
Wal-Mart claims that it has great concern for the welfare and betterment of societies it enters. However, this is true that Wal-Mart has done very welfare activities for the towns and societies wherever it has its retail stores. But looking at the competition and threat that it gives to other businesses, raises the questions that whether Wal-Mart has goal and strategies for the betterment of communal businesses.
