Introduction

Despite the belief of many people in the United States, many frail and sick elderly people remain in their homes, and care for family members, mostly women, out of ten spouses. Advances in medical technology may lead to people living longer, but not necessarily healthier, lives. Caregivers are often faced with financial, emotional and physical stress associated with caring responsibilities. Common feelings described by caregivers are isolation and loneliness. Often, lack of community resources adds to frustrations they feel in helping.

This paper examines the role of intermediaries caregiver support groups and raises questions relating to elder abuse reporting laws, ethical responsibilities of social workers to keep abreast of and respond to such laws, and ethical issues, informing the members of support groups with older people reporting laws. We introduce the basic functions of caregiver support groups, as well as the basic premise with older people reporting laws, and illustrate the ethical dilemmas associated with the departure of the suspects in the elderly and neglect. In this paper, the term "mediator" refers to the social work coordinator of social work from accredited bachelor's and graduate schools of social work, and who are either single or cofacilitators care of the support group. The term "caregiver support group" refers to the support teams to care for the elderly.

Toseland (1995) explains that the caregiver support group serves the eight core functions to reduce the stress care:

respite from caring role;

a safe place to vent pent-up emotions and feelings and share experiences in creating a conducive atmosphere;

To provide methods to solve problems and overcome, as well as to assist in action plans to address the urgent care problems.

However, these key features can lead to ethical dilemmas for mediators.
