The Third War

Introduction

The war in Afghanistan has been carried since a long time. One complete generation of Afghans and American alike have grown-up with watching their parents fighting in the region, later replacing them themselves. Although, this war has been under the limelight since a long time, but as the time has passed on and the expectation that were projected are not yet been fulfilled, the involvement is being questioned by a number of people (Fiscus, 2004). The people of America are still wondering why are the troops still in Afghanistan, including the spouses and families of the military commanders, who loved ones have been serving a number of tours in New Dawn and Enduring Freedom.

Now that the election year has started, both the United States' dominating parties, the Democrats and the Republican, are all being issues to the table. As it was predictable, majority of the Democrats feel that America should withdraw its troops from Afghanistan before the projected year i.e. 2014. Nevertheless, according to a research by Seth (2009), in a recent polling, around 40 percent of the Republicans have agreed that the troops should be withdrawn earlier than the projected year. Throughout the ideological spectrum, there has been a rapid decrease in the support of the war with around 69 percent Americans people believing that the American military should not be in Afghanistan for long in comparison to 53 percent a month ago (Seth, 2009).

Thesis Statement

How Afghanistan became the focus of US retaliation and accountability for the attacks of 9/11 which galvanized US support; how that focus was never fully realized in conducting the new War on Terrorism and going after those responsible as we the US surreptitiously shifted focus to Iraq; which led to the Third War against the American People to not pay attention to War in Iraq (hence any war/Afghanistan) so as to not hold government accountable, hence, the USA was not at war, the US Military was and has been. The public has had no dog in the fight since the focus left Afghanistan, switched to Iraq, and no back to Afghanistan.

Discussion

Point 1

The world changed when terrorists attacked the United States on September 11, 200 1. Nineteen terrorists hijacked four American airplanes early that morning, using them as bombs, flying two directly into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, and one into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The fourth plane, probably intended to hit the White House ...
