Abstract

This paper aims to study the social justice implications of Growing Aging Population of the United States of America and their effects on the Mental Health System. The elderly people face severe circumstances in the society based on the lack of availability of their basic needs. This paper contains a thorough study of the issues of these people and the welfare being done in favor of these people by the social workers. The implication of behavioral theories and their impacts are also discussed. The realization of health related laws and regulations is also revealed, and the performance of social workers is also described in this regard.

Overview: Social Justice System

Aging is a foreseeable event that all people face. No matter race, ethnicity, or gender, aging affects all individuals in ways as unique as one's personality. As the Baby-Boomer generation reaches retirement age, the need for expanding national geriatric medical services has become an urgent matter. Even with an increase in a healthier population of seniors in today's world, many elderly people often have multiple chronic illnesses, ranging from high blood pressure to such serious diagnosis's as kidney failure; and both major and minor (or easily treatable diseases) can be expensive to treat. The Unites States, like many other countries of the world, is in a health care crisis. Also like other countries, the U.S. government has stepped to the plate to try to find a solution to be sure not only the aging population's medical needs are met but also all other citizens of the country (Draine, 2013 pp. 87-90).

The implication of social justice in this regard is the main need of the growing aged people of the United States as their mental health is also affected by such impacts. Social justice encompasses all the human values based on equality, solidarity and mainly the recognition of human rights and human dignity with due respect towards humanity. As per the justice is concerned, it should not be biased at all. American people like all others, also want to enjoy a just environment at the workplaces in all ages so to avoid the disruption in their mental health levels (Draine, 2013 pp. 87-90).

Mental Health System

The growing aging population in America has been increasing since long, like in all the other countries of the world. During 90s, it was reported that there was a single person in every 8 persons aged 65 or over. However, during 2010-2030 it is estimated that the growing aging population is almost a single person among 5 persons. Generally, these people face mental health issues in the society; however, there are people who have a tendency to meet their deficits, so they are not affected mentally, but still they get severe health disorders that require utmost care (Draine, 2013 pp. 87-90).
