“the Sculptor's Funeral”

Introduction

In this story there is something important that can be linked. This town is full of people who are close minded and cruel. This story is about how people act in a small town they care. As I continue to read the story, I feel like I'm walking down the city and participate in this conspiracy. (Cather's 588)

With descriptions and phonics using Willa Cather, it seems truly lived. The men of the city are waiting for the train to come with the body of Harvey Merrick. While they are in the cold night, the men are using a kind of language that seems very unusual. They say things like, Ms. Merrick is why Harvey left the city first and see how it remains so sweet. I do not know if they are saying this in anger or sympathy. One man even admits that Harve hated because they do not know or understand. In comparison, it remains that way today's society. People are afraid of things that do not have the knowledge and the growing hatred and aversion for the things you wish not to have an open mind. Harve Merrick Jim Laird and grow in this city with this closed minded people do not care about anything or anyone but themselves. (Lee 100)

They played together went to the same school and attended the same church. They were succumbing to the common people lifestyles and attitudes, but they wanted something different for their lives. Jim and Harve wanted more out of life than the city had to offer. These guys were goal-oriented, and ambitious in its future want to be great and successful regardless of any ...
