The Role Of Women During World War I

Introduction

The First World War took place between 1914 and 1918. It originated in Europe, by the rivalry between the imperialist powers and became the first to cover over half the planet. Was once the bloodiest conflict in history. Before the Second World War, this war was often called the Great War or the War of Wars. The role of women during the war was extremely important as they left the military men and women were forced to work to support the family. They were employed in factories and industries simply because someone had to do the work. Women occupied the positions that were vacant while the war lasted. This had consequences for generating positive and negative changes. Women were becoming part of the workforce while their children were grown alone. Wages of women was lower than men in many trades and stayed with the posts and at the end of World War II, the men returned to be unemployed (Frances, pp. 3).

Arguably, it was in the First World War when women left the kitchen, laundry and childcare, to begin developing a role in the society of the time, reaching its goal in the long road of claiming rights of women, especially the right to vote. The role of women changed dramatically since the First World War. This went from housewife to working, worker, nurse, activist well, part of the working society. Since long ago, the woman was who was to-liability-stay home and do the cleaning, and caring for children and husband. However, after the Great War, women gained a little more freedom and entered the labor market. The war provided work opportunities for women. In England, between 1914 and 1918, an estimated two million women replaced men in the workplace. And not only managed to work as men, but also laid the foundation of feminism today and opened the door to the voting rights and gender equity.

Word War 1 and Women's Life

World War I disrupted the daily lives of women. Their living conditions were harsh in war and their roles in society have evolved with the weight of circumstances and the mobilization of all national energies. The war made daily life difficult for the women, it was first to get food in time of war when food production became more rare. The cultures were less productive in the absence of men of draft animals and fertilizer. Sometimes we had to queue for long periods in front of grocery stores before getting food. This was partly rationed during the war. Lack of food was not the only difficulty that faced women; it was also difficult to get supplies of heating fuel (Carl, pp. 1). The essential property of the nation was first assigned to the war effort and hairy. This fact reinforced the difficulty of the work of women during the First World War, because the bodies were weakened by hunger.
