ABSTRACT
This research intends to investigate the economic development or changes brought in local community since the supermarkets were opened. However, there is an on-going debate in the context of supermarket impact in local communities. Therefore, this study will provide a better understanding about the growing economic impacts on local communities. In recent times, the number of superstores in every community has been increasing dramatically all over the UK. The changing life style of people has a huge impact on growing number of supermarkets. In the UK, in last fifty years, there have been major changes in the way people use supermarket. Fifty years ago, most people bought their food from markets or specialist food shops, such as green grocers, butchers and fishmongers.

General Background of the Study
In UK local communities such as Streatham; the supermarkets offer a wider range of household goods and food. The traditional form of supermarket in these local areas is divided into departments of dairy products, baked products, packaged and canned goods. In local communities of UK, development of supermarket is strongly associated with the increase in growth of population and development of industry (Kotler 2011, p. 145). The demand for processed goods increases with the increase in population size. In majority of cases it has been observed that local providers are unable to meet the demand, therefore creating the requirement for method that meets the abovementioned demand. The same case is present in UK, because of the above mentioned reason, the rise of supermarkets have provided with a wider range of food at reasonable prices (Hawkes 2008, p. 657).
